Dear Parents/Guardians,
Hello! I am one of the Health/Physical Education teachers that will be teaching your child/children at Gray's Woods this school year. This will be my 25th year of teaching Elementary Health and Physical Education.
I live in Bellefonte with my husband, Steve. We have two adult children. Our son, Tyler, is married and is in his fourteenth year of teaching Math. He teaches at State College Area High School. Tyler and his wife, Elise, have three children. Our daughter, Breanna, is also a teacher, but is currently a stay-at-home mommy. Breanna and her husband, Nate, have two children. Being a grandma is more than I had ever imagined! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, camping, fishing, boating, and trail riding on our ATV.
This year, in Grades 1 and 2, we will be working on exploring personal space, locomotor skills, tumbling activities, and manipulatives using hula hoops, beanbags, ropes, scoops, paddles, scooters and balloons. Health lessons will also be taught during PE throughout the school year.
This year, in Grades 4 and 5, we will be covering units such as soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, rhythms, cooperation, and problem solving. Health lessons will also be taught during PE throughout the school year.
On the first day of class, I spent most of the time going over the rules, talking about how to show PACK behavior in Phys. Ed. and safety drill procedures. One of the major rules in my class is for everyone to wear sneakers for gym for safety reasons. It would be helpful if you could remind your child what "Day" on the cycle that he/she has Health/Physical Education. Other rules that I discussed during our first day of class include wearing the appropriate clothes for class, following directions, cooperating with others, showing good sportsmanship, using encouraging words, "treating other people like you want to be treated", and always trying your best.
I teach the following classes at Gray's Woods Elementary:
Day 3: Battaglia, Reed, Corkery, DiPerna
