Summer Activities Update
As Centre County moved into the yellow phase, some restrictions on work and social interaction have eased while others, such as closures of schools, remain in place.
Approaching summer, we continue to evaluate the possibility of SCASD summer activities that include learning experiences and athletics. We have been planning for these opportunities to occur; however, we’re in a holding pattern due to Governor Wolf’s pandemic mitigation order.
At present, we are looking at the summer in June and July increments and plan to make a decision regarding June’s summer activities by Friday, May 22. We promise to keep you posted with any updates and are hopeful we’ll be able to provide summer experiences for our students.
Stay safe and well,
Director of Communications
Re-Opening of Outdoor Athletic Areas
On Friday, May 8th, Gov. Wolf moved Centre County into the Yellow Phase of response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the PA Department of Health has updated their guidelines.
During this phase, we will be re-opening our outdoor athletic areas under specific rules.
Our playground status aligns with what Centre Region Parks and Recreation is communicating: “During yellow status, all playgrounds in Centre Region parks and on State College Area School District facilities remain closed for the safety of our community. Playgrounds will not open until Centre County reaches green status.”
To follow health and safety guidelines, we ask that you:
- Do not use our playgrounds.
- Do not gather in groups larger than 25 people.
- Stay at least six feet from other individuals, even during conversations.
- Do not use the facilities if you are sick or medically vulnerable.
- Sanitize equipment, balls and supplies before and after use of the facilities.
- Organized youth or adult sports groups’ practices, large events, tournaments, or leagues are not permitted.
- Bring your own, cleaned water bottle.
- Do not share any water bottles or personal care items
Despite this change, we still need to be cautious, and mindful of healthy practices, as we begin to open some of our facilities. We appreciate your cooperation with these guidelines so that we can all enjoy our community’s outdoor facilities as safely as possible.
The USTA has created this "Playing Tennis Safely" document that provides guidelines and reccommendations during this COVID time of resocialization.
