High School

 

  • A State High student was chosen to be the Pennsylvania State Board of Education junior representative and help address education issues. The same individual was selected to be one of two Pennsylvania delegates to the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program. (2022)

  • State High Technology Student Association chapter members won six individual and team state championships. (2022)

  • Two State High students notched rare perfect Advanced Placement exam scores in computer sciences principles and drawing. (2022)

  • A State High student won three Gold Keys and two Silver Keys for digital painting and poetry in the national 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Another of the student’s works was included in the New York Times’ 2021 special section Coming of Age, which collected teenagers’ perspectives on life during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • A State High student won the gold medal for early childhood education at the SkillsUSA State Conference. (2022)

  • The State High Future Health Professionals chapter won four gold medals at the Health Occupations Student Association state conference. (2022)

  • A science project created by three State High students was among five finalists in the national 2019 Genes in Space competition. State High had another finalist in the 2015 competition.

  • A State High student recorded a perfect score on the 2018 National Latin Exam, a feat matched by only 526 out of 14,000 test-takers.

  • A State High student was named one of 757 National YoungArts Foundation Merit winners. (2018)

  • A State High student was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar, one of 161 seniors nationwide to receive the honor. (2017)

  • State High received a Top Global Learning School Award from AFS-USA, an international student exchange, and the National Society of High School Scholars for promoting global citizenship through intercultural learning in and out of the classroom. (2016)

  • A State High health education teacher received the SHAPE America National Health Education Teacher of the Year Award. (2016)

  • A State High student helped the U.S. Physics Team to place fifth and seventh in different categories at the 47th International Physics Olympiad in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.(2015)

  • Annually, several State High students are National Merit Scholarship finalists.

  • In 2022, the district’s music program for elementary, middle and high schools received its 18th Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants.

  • The All Ready Access/Schlow-to-School Program, a collaboration between SCASD and Schlow Centre Region Library which automatically provides Schlow library cards to all district students and allows them to have books delivered to schools, received a national commendation from the American Association of School Librarians in 2022.

Middle and Elementary Schools

 

  • A Mount Nittany Middle School student repeated as the Mathcounts competition state champion. Teammates placed second, third and fourth, marking the first time district students comprised the entire state team for the national competition. (2022)

  • Park Forest Middle School Technology Association chapter members won three national TSA championships. (2022)

  • A Park Forest Elementary second grade teacher was named a State College Magazine Teacher of the Year. (2022) SCASD teachers regularly receive the accolade.

  • A STEM teacher for Corl Street and Radio Park elementary schools was named the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology Teacher of the Year. (2021)

  • A Park Forest and Gray’s Woods elementary school music teacher received the Penn State School of Music Outstanding Alumni Music Educator Award. (2018)

  • A Radio Park Elementary fourth-grade teacher received the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics New Teacher Award. (2018)

  • Park Forest Elementary was one of 47 schools nationwide chosen as U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools for innovative environmental practices and efforts to promote sustainability. (2016)

  • The Park Forest Middle School Integrative STEM team received the national Gerhard Salinger Award for Enhancing STEM Education Through Technological/Engineering Design-Based Instruction. (2016)

  • A Radio Park Elementary fifth-grade teacher was named the Gilder Lehrman Pennsylvania History Teacher of the Year for the state. (2015)

Athletics

 

  • State High boys’ golf, girls’ rugby, boys’ wrestling, boys’ cross country, and boys’ and girls’ indoor and outdoor track and field programs have won state championships.

  • A State High student was named the 2020-2021 Gatorade Pennsylvania Boys Cross Country Players of the Year. 

  • The boys' golf coach was named the 2021 National Federation of State High School Associations/Pennsylvania Boys’ Golf Coach of the Year.
