    Highlighting Black History Month Events

    To help commemorate Black History Month, Jeremy Bullock shared not only the stories of an athlete and an astronaut, but also a bit of his own. Bullock, a Penn State senior, recently visited Corl Street Elementary for the district’s African American Read-In program, a February tradition.

    Students Teaching Students in Everyday Algebra

    In exchange for academic credit, seven Everyday Algebra TAs (State High students) this year are fulfilling various supportive roles, from assisting with preparing resources such as flash cards to addressing questions during class as needed.

    Board of Directors Appoints New Member

    On Monday, Feb. 6, the Board of Directors unanimously appointed Jim Leous to the Board to fill a vacant seat. One of nine candidates, Leous previously served three terms on the board from 2009 to 2021, including as vice president in 2011-2012 and from 2014 to 2018.

    U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Candidate

    State High senior Emily Zhang has been named a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidate. The program nominated 5,000 candidates from the nearly 3.6 million U.S high school seniors expected to graduate in 2023. From the pool, the White House Commission will choose 161 finalists.

    Dr. Quinter Joins NAESP Board of Directors

    Park Forest Elementary School Principal Jessica Quinter just saw her influence on education grow dramatically. The National Association of Elementary School Principals recently announced that Dr. Quinter will join the NAESP Board of Directors as its new Zone 2 director.
