For the 20th year, State College Area School District elementary schools showed that jumping rope is truly a heart-healthy exercise.
Hundreds of students hopped, skipped and jumped their way to raising $62,671 during the annual Jump Rope for Heart event in February at State High — a record for the fundraiser that the SCASD physical education department organizes in support of the American Heart Association.
Students who couldn’t jump at the official event nevertheless contributed by participating in their PE classes. Their collective bounciness helped boost the event’s cumulative total to $716,675. This year, Radio Park Elementary led all schools with $15,168 raised.
