All-State and All-East Music Honors Ensembles

PA Music Educator's Association Region Choir Festival.

Sixteen State High students earned spots on this year’s Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Honors Ensembles and the National Association for Music Education All-East Honors Ensembles.

The musicians and singers performed concerts at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.

“Congratulations to these students and to all of their teachers for the guidance and support in their whole education,” said Paul Leskowicz, the State College Area School District K-12 music coordinator.

Qualifying for the PMEA All-State Orchestra were Audrey Clement (violin), Krista Chen (cello), Gabe Herrera (trombone), Jon Lin (viola) and Emily Redmond (bass).

Herrera also qualified for the PMEA All-State Band, joined by Megan Russell (flute). Additionally, he was named to the PMEA All-State Jazz Band.

Russell is on PMEA All-State Chorus as well, along with Nicholas Cole, Sarah Devan, Taylor Elliot, Riley Finkle, Declan Flanagan, Dylan Henderson and Emma Neely. They qualified at the PMEA Region Choir Festival out of a field of 200 students from 40 school districts. State High sent 17 students to the festival.

Trombonist Will Hurtz made the NAfME Eastern Division All-East Honors Band, and Will Flecko and Tynan Butler qualified for the NAfME Eastern Division All-East Honors Chorus.

“I am so incredibly proud of how well all of our students performed, overcoming the stress of a packed and busy spring and representing themselves and SCASD at the highest level,” said State High Director of Choirs Erik Clayton. “Their accomplishments are a result of their hard work and talent; the incredible music educators in the school district at the elementary, middle school and high school levels; the continuing support of our administration and school board; and most all, the support of parents.”
