New Radio Park Elementary Principal

RaupAlex Raup’s education career has taken him full circle.

On May 24, the State College Area School District Board of Directors approved Raup as the new principal of Radio Park Elementary School, where he attended through the fifth grade.

“I am beyond excited to be returning to my elementary alma mater to serve the students, families, and teachers at Radio Park Elementary School and to give back to a school that meant so much to me and my early growth and development,” he said. “I know that a student’s elementary years help set the tone for their success in middle school, high school, and beyond, and I am committed to fostering a positive school experience for every Mini Lion at Radio Park.”

A State High graduate, Raup has spent his entire 12-year career with SCASD, the last five of which as Mount Nittany Middle School’s assistant principal. He also has taught English at the middle and high school levels. While teaching, he earned a master’s degree in education from Saint Francis University to go along with his English degree from Franklin & Marshall College. He received his teaching certification from Millersville University.

As an assistant principal, he became a certified trainer in Restorative Practices and led training sessions for district faculty, staff and students. Over the years, he also has coached youth and high school swimming as well as youth football.

“With his ties to the district and the community, Mr. Raup is a great fit to lead the Radio Park community,” Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Vern Bock said. “In addition to his leadership skills, he’ll bring his vast experience as an instructional leader. He has expertise in providing tiered academic, social-emotional, and behavioral instruction and interventions for students. We’re looking forward to seeing him flourish in his new role.”
