New Easterly Parkway Elementary Principal
Susan Lunsford is moving up in the district by moving across it.
Lunsford became the new Easterly Parkway Elementary School principal on Sept. 13 after the State College Area School District Board of Directors approved her change of jobs. Previously, she had been instructional support teacher at Park Forest Elementary School for 10 years, the last of which she also spent assisting as interim principal with administrative matters.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead and work with the outstanding Easterly Parkway learning community,” Lunsford said. “I look forward to getting to know the teachers, families, and their students as we continue to learn and grow together in an environment where everyone is welcome.”
Lunsford holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Penn State, as well as a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Scranton and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Penn State.
Prior to teaching at Park Forest, she served as a professional development associate in the Professional Development School partnership between SCASD and the Penn State College of Education for five years, and taught at Ferguson Township Elementary School from 1987 to 1998. She also has been a Penn State education instructor and has written seven teaching instructional books.
“Susan brings this vast experience to Easterly Parkway and will be a great instructional leader who has a focus on supporting all students’ needs,” said Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Danielle Yoder, Lunsford’s predecessor. “She is excited to make connections with students, faculty, staff and families to provide a solid foundation for working collaboratively as a team.”
