Numerous SCASD high school students capped the winter on a high note by qualifying for all-star music ensembles.
Sixty-eight students were eligible to participate in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association district bands, choir, and orchestra. From there, 49 qualified for PMEA regional ensembles and 27 for the PMEA’s all-state orchestra, wind ensemble, concert band, jazz band and choir. Additionally, four students qualified to attend the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Region Honors Choir in February.
Students auditioned to rise to the PMEA regional and state levels. Some qualified for two PMEA all-state ensembles but could only choose one, while some qualifiers could not participate due to prior commitments. All qualifier names are listed below.
“Qualifying is a huge honor even if a student could not participate,” SCASD K-12 Music Coordinator Molly McAninch said.
Another honor for the district music department comes courtesy of the State High Master Singers and director Eric Clayton, who will perform at the PMEA state conference on April 8 as one of three high school choirs chosen for the event. A celebratory concert in the State High Performing Arts Center will take place on April 5 at 7:30 p.m.
