Ryan Walsh Named HS Assistant Principal
On Monday, Nov. 7, the State College Area School District Board of Directors approved Ryan Walsh to fill a high school assistant principal position.
Walsh succeeds Tonya Black, who was approved on the same date to be the district’s new director of equity, inclusion and belonging. He had been serving as an interim assistant principal in place of Jackie Saylor during her medical leave of absence.
In his current role, Walsh will oversee grades 10-12, last names H-O.
“I am excited to continue with the administration team at State High and am looking forward to more opportunities to serve as an advocate for students, families and staff,” he said. “The ability to provide support and leadership to the high school community in this new role is extremely inspiring and humbling.”
A 2000 graduate of Penn State, where he also earned a master’s of education degree in educational leadership in 2007, Walsh has taught social studies at State High for 19 years in addition to his administrative experience, including a recent stint as the department coordinator. From 2008 to 2017, he also was the district’s assistant athletic director.
Tina Greene, a Virtual Academy teacher/assistant principal, will temporarily fill Walsh’s previous assistant principal position.
