New Mount Nittany Elementary Principal

Principal Beth SolenskyOn Monday, May 6, 2024, the State College Area School District Board of Directors approved Beth Solensky to be the new Mount Nittany Elementary School principal.

She succeeds Mark Feldman, who is retiring in June.

Solensky joins the district from Ridge Wood Elementary School in Northville, Mich., where she has been the principal since 2018. She also has taught fifth grade in the Northville Public Schools District, and her 20 years in elementary education has included teaching in Hugo, Minn.; Eden Prairie, Minn.; and Troy, Mich.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Mount Nittany Elementary team,” Solensky said. “I am deeply passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student will thrive. I look forward to serving alongside my SCASD colleagues and learning from them.”

A 1999 Penn State graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, Solensky taught English at a South Korea high school as a Senator J. William Fulbright Scholar from 2000 to 2001, living with a Korean family during her stay. In 2004, as a Fulbright Master Teacher, she traveled to Japan to plan and implement English lessons, then held monthly video conferences with Japanese students for a year.

She subsequently went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in reading and language arts from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., in 2006, receiving her elementary and secondary administrative certification at Michigan State nine years later.

Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Danielle Yoder said that, in selecting Solensky as the top candidate, the search committee considered input from MNE teachers and staff, parents, board members, and administrators.

Solensky’s official first day will be July 1, though she hopes to spend time at MNE before the end of the school year.
