State High Thespians Win Isaac Awards

State High thespians groupThe State College Area High School Thespians brought home four recognitions from the 19th annual Isaac Awards at Mishler Theatre in Altoona.

 

The Isaac Awards honor student musical theater performers and crew members from 20 schools in a six-county area.

 

Spencer Hardyk won Best Lead Actor in a Male Role for his portrayal of Frederick in State High’s production of “The Pirates of Penzance.” For playing the Pirate King, Luca Snyder was nominated in the same category, one of eight State High nominations.

 

“The Pirates of Penzance” was among the five Best Production nominees.

 

State High Thespians productionAl Eburne received the Student Design award for costume design, and Audrey Shaner and Bri Dzyak were named the runner up in the Student Choreography category for their work for “With Catlike Tread, Upon Our Prey We Steal.” That number also was nominated for Best Dance.

 

Other State High nominations went to Hadley Milhomme for Best Lead Actor in a Female Role for the role of Mabel, and the paint crew of Anna Coupland and Cecelia Corro for Student Stage Crew.

 

In addition to the production awards, schools nominated individuals for their Most Valuable Person Isaac Award. Bello Gallo received the honor for the Thespians.

 

“The Isaac Awards are always a highlight of the year, and tonight was as fun and fancy as always,” Thespians advisor Libby Snyder said. “Congratulations, State High Thespians, on representing our show so beautifully — a final hurrah for our incredible production of ‘The Pirates of Penzance!’ Congrats to all involved — performers, nominees, and award winners.”
