Construction Projects Update
Let’s bring you up to speed on the district’s current construction projects.
Corl Street, Radio Park and Spring Creek elementary schools:
○ Work continues on the interiors and exteriors, including elevator
installations, progressing toward an August 2019 completion.
○ On Jan. 2, 2019, Radio Park students will move into new classroom wings to begin Phase 3 of the project. Temporary spaces will be used for the main office, cafeteria, library and gym. There also will be a temporary front entrance.
○ At Corl Street, workers are striving to complete Phase 1 in time for students to move in to the new section on Jan. 2. During Phase 2, the cafeteria and main office will be in temporary spaces, and there will be a temporary front entrance.
○ At Spring Creek, workers have completed roof decking and roofing on one classroom unit, and are working on the roofing of the other three units. They’re also completing interior masonry walls; interior mechanical, engineering and plumbing systems; and exterior and interior veneers. The building is on schedule for a fall 2019 completion.
State High Project: Faculty will begin moving into the media center, counseling suite, art wing, and the main corridor leading to the student hub over the upcoming winter break. Students will begin occupying the spaces Jan. 2. The renovated North Building locker rooms are ready for occupancy. Final phase work continues on the main auditorium and the rest of the performing arts section, as well as on the student hub, the physical education area and the back entrance.
○ The counseling wing and media center were originally scheduled to be completed in August 2019 but were accelerated to allow for occupancy during the school year.
The Delta Program Project: With exterior walls erected, concrete floor blocks and the central atrium concrete slab floor foundation are being installed in the two-story Delta Program building. “We’re really trying to fight the weather trying to get this building up and a cap on it,” said Project Manager Tim Jones of Massaro Construction Management Services, noting the building remains on schedule to be finished in August 2019.
Memorial Field Project: After an eight-month hiatus, the renovation project has been approved for bidding. The final phase of the $13.2 million project — including rebuilt home bleachers, locker rooms beneath the stands, improved restrooms, and a concession plaza on the site of the current Nittany Avenue Building — is expected to start in the summer of 2019.
