Singing the Praises of State High Music Students
State High music students recently mined their talent and struck gold in Washington, D.C.
At the WorldStrides Heritage Adjudication Festival, the Jazz Band, Master Singers and Symphonic Band earned first-place gold ratings for their performances. Gold ratings reflect scores of 90 to 100; silver ones for 80 to 90 and bronze for 70 to 80. All of State High’s ensembles scored above 86.
Silver ratings went to the Advanced Rock Ensemble, Festival Band, Festival Choir and Festival Orchestra.
Additionally, the Jazz Band and Master Singers each earned the Adjudicator Award given to the top band and choir. State High also received honors for best overall choir program and overall instrumental program, awards for the highest average scores across all ensembles.
“Our students were very proud of their performances and awards,” State High Director of Choirs Erik Clayton said.
The weekend wasn’t all about performing. When not on stage, the 220 students and their chaperones checked out the National Mall, explored Smithsonian museums and visited the Arlington National Cemetery.
“They made wonderful memories that will last a lifetime,” Clayton said. “They represented State High admirably, and are the best tribute to what is special about SCASD.”
