State High To Play Historic Game in Beaver Stadium
For decades, a fall Saturday in Beaver Stadium has meant cheering on teams wearing blue and white — until now.
State High’s maroon and gray Little Lions will take on Cumberland Valley in a Mid Penn Conference game at the stadium on Oct. 26, Penn State announced today. The Beaver Stadium Classic will mark the first time State High has played on the turf made famous by scores of legendary Nittany Lion players.
“We are so thankful for this opportunity for not only our players and coaches, but also our school community,” State High Athletic Director Chris Weakland said. “This is an experience that we hope everyone can enjoy and cherish for a long time to come.”
Kickoff will be at noon.
For some families, the day will be extra special. State High will hold its Senior Night recognitions for senior players and their parents before the game — a memorable alternative to Memorial Field while it’s closed this season for renovations.
“We are extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity that this will provide our community,” State High Head Football Coach Matt Lintal said. “Most of the players on our team have grown up dreaming about running out of the tunnel at Beaver Stadium. To have this opportunity, especially for our senior class who has sacrificed so much for our program, is truly amazing. We are thankful for all of the efforts that have gone into making this possible.”
According to Weakland, this summer Penn State offered the opportunity for two Mid Penn Conference teams. State High and Cumberland Valley were the first schools to submit requests.
As per NCAA regulations, neither school will receive financial compensation, nor be able to collect any revenue. Both will be responsible for their expenses.
Tickets will cost $10 and be available at the schools and Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center, starting on Oct. 1. Parking will cost $10.
