Scholastic Art and Writing Competition
Ari Osgood Cox won three Gold Key awards for photography in the 2019 Scholastic Art and Writing Northeast Region-At-Large competition, highlighting a strong showing for 24 State College Area High School students.
State High’s entries collected medals for 52 works, including 10 Gold Keys and 10 Silver Keys.
In addition to Cox, three students each took home three keys. Shirley Zhang won two golds and a silver, while Jackie Li and Margo Novikov both garnered a gold and two silvers for painting.
Gold Key works qualify for national judging on March 13.
“Our students are confident enough to enter, and that means so much,” said State High art teacher Danielle Crowe, the district’s art coordinator. “We don't force students to enter as many schools do. We encourage it and will even pay the entry fee, but they only enter if they feel like their work is worth being judged amongst a huge group of peers. And while we are happy that some are recognized by this great organization, we are proud that our students feel good about the work they are putting out into the world.”
