2017 Paul Heasley
As a teacher of Agricultural Science with the school district’s Career and Technical Center, Paul Heasley received dozens of teaching and professional awards, and he strengthened the program and consistently promoted youth involvement in both agricultural and governmental groups in our local community.
Under his direction, instituting the Ag Science Program’s, four improvement strategies contributed to a 500% increase in secondary enrollments in Ag Science.
For 36 years, Paul served as an advisor to the local FFA, in conjunction with which he conducted and hosted professional development activities at the state level.
He successfully pushed 55 grant applications worth over half-a-million dollars through to completion. Those efforts benefitted several local food banks, plus Meals on Wheels, Centre County Youth Service Bureau, and more. In his classroom, Paul stressed the skills necessary for a variety of ag sciences, enabling the program to expand to more than 250 career paths.
Out of the classroom, his work was emphatically evident during the annual Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair, where he oversaw his students’ projects. Paul assisted local farm operators with the completion of manure management plans under PA’s Soil Conservation Service, in addition to working for many years with PA Dept of Education’s Career & Technical Bureau on various methods to build more effective educational programming.
In 2014, after having served as an advisor for Pennsylvania Young Farmers’ Association since 1995, he was honored as the association’s Outstanding Young Farmer Advisor.
Paul’s stated passion has been “to serve our youth, and especially in the past 20-plus years, giving back to State College students and the community.”
