2010 Distinguished Alumnus- Paul V. Suhey (Click here for profile)
At State High, Paul Suhey was a 1974 state wrestling champion and a three-year letterman on the football team, which won the media 1973 state championship. Many years later, he served the State High football team as volunteer team doctor.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State in 1979, where he was a four-year football letterman and captained the 1979 team. He received the Ridge Riley Award and was selected for three senior honor societies. As a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, he was chairman of IFC Board of Control.
After receiving a graduate degree from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was class president and a Dean's Award recipient, he completed his orthopedic residency and was selected for a Sports Medicine/Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Virginia. He also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Alabama Sports Medicine Institute.
Following relocation to Jacksonville FL, Dr. Suhey became Chief of Orthopedics and Director of Sports Medicine at Riverside Hospital and Vice Chairman of Orthopedics at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He co-founded Atlantic Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center and was Clinical Assistant Professor at University of North Florida.
Upon his return to State College, he practiced as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with University Orthopedics in State College and later as a partner within Martin Suhey Orthopedics. Dr. Suhey has served on the Medical Executive Committee of Mount Nittany Medical Center and as an elected member of the Penn State Board of Trustees. As a founding member of SHFAST, he was instrumental in the raising of over $734,000 in support of the 2003 renovation of State High's Memorial Field.
