About Us

  • What is the Virtual Academy?

    The State College Virtual Academy is the State College Area School District's comprehensive cyber school option. The Virtual Academy provides your student with all the benefits and opportunities of being a member of the State College Area School District and the flexibility to create a learning schedule that meets their needs.

    The Virtual Academy serves Kindergarten through 12th grade. The academy is divided into two programs: elementrary (K-5), and secondary (6-12). Please use the links below to learn more about how the program is structured, what you can expect, and the online provider:

    Benefits of SCASD Virtual Academy

    Courses are facilitated by a SCASD teacher to provide feedback and answer questions as your student works through courses at their own pace and at a time and place that suits them.

    All Virtual Academy students graduate with their class and receive a State College diploma. As members of the district they have access to the activities and services of their assigned home building including:

    • clubs
    • sports 
    • dances
    • libraries
    • free tutoring services:
    • Math Center (high school)

    Sam Rockmore isn’t shy about expressing his opinions in the Park Forest Middle School newspaper. Take his takedown of Skittles, for instance, placed next-to-last and dismissed as “fake M&Ms” in his January column: “These are like raisin cookies … Skittles are a crime against humanity.”

    Board of Directors Approves New Superintendent

    On Monday, March 13, the State College Area School District Board of Directors unanimously approved Curtis Johnson to be the next SCASD superintendent. Johnson had been serving as interim superintendent for the past 10 months.

    Highlighting Black History Month Events

    To help commemorate Black History Month, Jeremy Bullock shared not only the stories of an athlete and an astronaut, but also a bit of his own. Bullock, a Penn State senior, recently visited Corl Street Elementary for the district’s African American Read-In program, a February tradition.
