  • What is the Virtual Academy?

    The State College Virtual Academy is the State College Area School District's comprehensive cyber school option. The Virtual Academy provides your student with all the benefits and opportunities of being a member of the State College Area School District and the flexibility to create a learning schedule that meets their needs.

    The Virtual Academy serves Kindergarten through 12th grade. The academy is divided into two programs: elementrary (K-5), and secondary (6-12). Please use the links below to learn more about how the program is structured, what you can expect, and the online provider:

    Benefits of SCASD Virtual Academy

    Courses are facilitated by a SCASD teacher to provide feedback and answer questions as your student works through courses at their own pace and at a time and place that suits them.

    All Virtual Academy students graduate with their class and receive a State College diploma. As members of the district they have access to the activities and services of their assigned home building including:

    • clubs
    • sports 
    • dances
    • libraries
    • free tutoring services:
    • Math Center (high school)

  • Expanding Foreign Language Opportunities

    A new foreign languages program provided elementary students with academic enrichment and intervention. Fourth and fifth-graders explored a language with three or four weekly 2-hour classes, choosing from French, Spanish, German, Chinese or Japanese.

  • Cello Choir Camp

    For the first time ever, the State College Area School District music department hosted a cello choir camp. Over 60 students representing all schools in the district participated in the four-day program.

  • Tim Dzurko Leads Students to Success

    As much as teacher Tim Dzurko likes seeing his students succeed, he’s also encouraged when they fail. That tells him he’s doing his job at Park Forest Middle School. For him, the mistakes signify that students are diving into complex projects, trying out creative approaches and overcoming challenges.

  • Pennsylvania State Board of Education Representative

    This summer, Claire Chi will become one voice for nearly 2 million others. Chi, a State College Area High School sophomore, recently was named the next Pennsylvania State Board of Education junior representative.

  • Board Approves Interim Superintendent

    The Board of Directors approved Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Curtis Johnson to serve as interim superintendent while the district searches for a successor to outgoing superintendent Bob O’Donnell.

Course Requests

  • 22/23 School Year Course Requests

    Course Requests are now being accepted for secondary (6-12) students planning to attend Virtual Academy for the school year. Only the student can submit the request. Once you have made your requests you will receive a receipt of your selections - should you decide you want to make any changes once you have submitted your requests you may go back in and edit your responses. There is a link to the Course Catalog in the form. Please use the form below to submit your requests:
