What is the Virtual Academy?
The State College Virtual Academy is the State College Area School District's comprehensive cyber school option.
For the coming 20/21 school year this program will serve K through 12th grade. Details will be forthcoming. The Virtual Academy provides your student with all the benefits and opportunities of being a member of the State College Area School District and the flexibility to create a learning schedule that meets their needs.
Benefits of SCASD Virtual Academy
Courses are facilitated by a SCASD teacher to provide feedback and answer questions as your student works through courses at their own pace and at a time and place that suits them.
All Academy students graduate with their class and receive a State College diploma. As members of the student body they have access to:
- zero period tutoring & VIPs
- Math Center help
Innovative playgrounds were introduced this year at Corl Street, Radio Park and Spring Creek elementary schools, the district’s newest buildings. “I love the new playground,” Radio Park student Benjamin Herickhoff says. “There are so many fun things to do.”
Last spring, Jack Lyke launched his latest course, Aquaponics and Sustainability, with seven students operating two systems. In 300-gallon tanks, they raised tilapia fingerlings to grow lettuce, which they sold to faculty and staff.
Andrés Aradillas-Fernández composed 20 fairy tales in German for his self-published collection translated as “Talking Mountains.” Available through Amazon, his work was inspired by an Advanced German 4 class project.
Dr. Ben Mordan, the new CTC director, takes over a popular program that intends to keep rising. This year, 1,331 students in grades 9-12 are enrolled in a CTC or technology education class, representing 56 percent of the State High population.
