What is the Virtual Academy?
The State College Virtual Academy is the State College Area School District's comprehensive cyber school option. The Virtual Academy provides your student with all the benefits and opportunities of being a member of the State College Area School District and the flexibility to create a learning schedule that meets their needs.
The Virtual Academy serves Kindergarten through 12th grade. The academy is divided into two programs: elementrary (K-5), and secondary (6-12). Please use the links below to learn more about how the program is structured, what you can expect, and the online provider:
Benefits of SCASD Virtual Academy
Courses are facilitated by a SCASD teacher to provide feedback and answer questions as your student works through courses at their own pace and at a time and place that suits them.
All Virtual Academy students graduate with their class and receive a State College diploma. As members of the district they have access to the activities and services of their assigned home building including:
- free tutoring services:
- zero period tutoring (high school)
- VIPs Tutoring Center
- Math Center (high school)
On Sept. 13, the Board of Directors approved the filling of three State High administrative positions. Brett Wilson shifted from being an assistant principal to the associate principal role, and teachers Jackie Saylor and Danielle Ambrosia are now assistant principals.
Park Forest Elementary’s Vivian Petrich has proved that, in the right hands, writing an award-winning children’s book can be child’s play. Her book, A Salt Shaker Named Pepper, topped the field in the WQED-sponsored PBS KIDS Writers Contest’s second-grade category.
On Aug. 24, the district welcomed nearly 7,000 students at 11 schools to kick off the year with smiles and high expectations. Recognizing that some students, after a year of learning altered by the pandemic, will need extra assistance, we added academic and social-emotional resources.
Parent Ann Tarantino, aided by the student body’s creativity, transformed the expanse of the Corl Street Elementary playground blacktop into a striking abstract mural. Made with 60 gallons of paint, her work marks a successful year-long collaboration completed this summer.
